Brown Butter Halloween Caffeinated Cookie Bars

Trick or Treat? These Brown Butter Halloween Caffeinated Cookie Bars are hauntingly delicious. Gooey, buttery, and just the thing to keep you from turning into a zombie before the party’s over.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cups (170g) unsalted butter, browned and cooled

  • 1/2 cup (100g) dark brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup (100g) white sugar

  • 1 large egg, room temperature

  • 1 large egg yolk, room temperature

  • 1 tbsp vanilla

  • 1 3/4 cups (210g) all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 3/4 cups (120g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • Halloween sprinkles

  • 9 AWAKE Caramel Caffeinated Chocolate Bites

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350℉/180℃. Line a 9x9 inch pan with parchment paper and set aside.

  2. Brown the butter: Melt the butter in a medium sized pan over medium heat. Once it melts, it will foam up – keep mixing the butter to prevent burning. The butter will go from melted to golden quickly, it’ll be done when a nutty aroma arrives and the milk solids turn an amber brown. The whole process should take about 5 minutes! Cool completely.

  3. Whisk together the brown butter, brown sugar and white sugar.

  4. Whisk in egg, egg yolk, & vanilla.

  5. Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Gently fold just until no dry streaks appear.

  6. Mix in chocolate chips.

  7. Spread evenly in a 9x9 baking pan. Add AWAKE Chocolate Bites on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

  8. Allow to cool, and enjoy!
